Creating a menu in WordPress is something that most site owners will need to do early on when setting up their website. Navigation is important not only for your site’s visitors, but for search engines as well.
There are a lot of ways that you can choose to organize your site, and one of the choice you make might be to use the tag taxonomy. But if you have chosen this route and intended to add a tag to your menu, you may find that you aren’t able to do so. Luckily there is a setting that you can change on this screen that will make it a lot easier.
The steps in this article were performed in WordPress 5.2.2. Note that you also have the option of adding a custom link to your menu and getting a tag there in that manner, but the method below makes it much easier.
Step 1: Sign into the admin section of your site at (yourdomain.com)/wp-admin.
Step 2 Hover over Appearance in the left column, then choose the Menus option.
Step 3: Click the Screen Options button at the top-right of the window.
Step 4: Check the box to the left of Tags.
Step 5: Select the menu that you wish to edit, then click the Tags tab and add one to the menu. Be sure to click the Save Menu button when you’re finished.
