Branding your website is something that you might take very seriously, or something that you might delay until you can really focus on it. But when you want to know how to add logo in WordPress header, you might have trouble figuring out how, depending on your theme.
There are certain visual elements that you will eventually want to customize on your website. Many of these are going to be taken care of by your site’s theme, such as the fonts, the colors, and the way that certain elements are styled.
But other site elements will need to be created by you, such as your site’s logo. The exact parameters and location of the logo are going to vary from theme to theme, but the majority of them are going to put the logo in the site’s header. Our tutorial below will show you how to add a logo to the WordPress header using the general location where most themes let you add it.
How to Add a Logo to a WordPress Site Through the Customizer
The steps in this article were performed on a Genesis site using the Smart Passive Income Pro child theme. I am using a site logo that is 860 x 160 pixels in size, which are the dimensions of the logo specified by that theme. If you don’t already know the logo dimensions for your site’s theme, then you will probably need to follow the first few steps below, where your theme will hopefully let you know the dimensions for the logo.
Step 1: Sign into your WordPress site’s admin section. You can typically access it by going to yourdomain.com/wp-admin.
Step 2: Hover over the Appearance tab at the left side of the window, then choose the Customize option.
Step 3: Click the Header Image tab at the left side of the window. Note that this will vary by theme, so it may say something like “Logo” or “Header and Logo” or “Branding.”
Step 4: Click the Add New Image button. Take notice of the information on this screen for your theme, as it should let you know the dimensions that you need for a logo on your theme.
Step 5: Click the Upload Files tab at the top of the window, then click the Select Files button at the center of the window. You can then browse to and select your site’s header logo. The next couple of steps may be optional depending on your theme.
Step 6: Click the Select and Crop button at the bottom-right of the window.
Step 7: Crop the logo as needed, then click the Crop Image button.
Step 8: Click the Publish button to add the logo to your site.
If you are using caching on your site, then it may take a little while for the logo to display. You can always purge your site’s cache to force the updated site to load through whatever means you are using to cache the site.
