Making your website easier to navigate is something that will benefit not only your readers, but search engines that are crawling your website. The ability for people to more easily locate information on a site is almost never a bad thing, and you can be rewarded greatly for it in terms of increased traffic and search engine rankings.
These navigation elements typically involves categories, tags and menus in WordPress, but they can also involve something called Breadcrumbs. This is a page element that displays at the top of your content and provides a series of links that people can click to return to various categorical levels of your site. Fortunately Genesis themes make it simple to add or remove breadcrumbs as needed.
How to Customize Breadcrumb Settings in Genesis
The steps in this article were performed on a site using the Passive Income Pro theme, with very minimal code editing performed on it. I haven’t tried this with every Genesis child theme, so there’s a possibility that breadcrumbs may not work for all of them. Additionally, if you have significantly modified your code, or had someone else do it, then they may have introduced some of their own code that affects the display of the breadcrumbs.
Step 1: Sign into the admin section of your site at yourdomain.com/wp-admin.
Step 2: Hover over the Genesis option in the left column, then choose the Theme Settings option.
Step 3: Scroll down to the Breadcrumbs section and choose where you would like breadcrumbs to display, and where you would not like to display them. When you’re done scroll to the bottom of the menu and click the Save Changes button.
Do you need to change the information currently displayed in your footer? Find out how to use a plugin called Simple Edits to customize your Genesis footer with whatever information you would like.
