The Jetpack plugin for WordPress has a lot of features, and it seems like more and more are being added with each update to the plugin. If you have already installed Jetpack then you are likely taking advantage of some of these features, such as its CDN and contact form.
But another thing that it can do is add a cookie and consent banner to your site that helps you to comply with the GDPR regulations in Europe. Our guide below will show you how to add this banner if you are already using Jetpack on your site.
How to Add the Jetpack Cooke Banner in WordPress
The steps in this article were performed in WordPress 5.1.1, and the Jetpack 7.1.1 version of the plugin. This guide assumes that you have already installed and activated the Jetpack plugin, and that you have enabled the extra Jetpack widgets.
If you don’t see the widget in the steps below, then read this article to enable those extra widgets. Additionally you should also have a privacy policy for your site, which you will be able to link to from the banner.
Step 1: Sign into the admin section of your site at (yourdomain.com)/wp-admin.
Step 2: Hover over the Appearance tab at the left side of the window, then choose the Widgets option.
Step 3: Find the Cookies & Consents Banner (Jetpack) widget.
Step 4: Click on the widget and drag it to the desired widget section at the right side of the menu.
Step 5: Adjust the settings as desired, such as adding the custom URL for your privacy policy, and selecting the color scheme.
Step 6: Click the Save button at the bottom of the widget settings menu.
One of the other helpful features of Jetpack are some sharing buttons that you can add to the bottom of your posts. Find out how to add these sharing buttons and make it easier for your readers to share your posts on social media.
