How to Change the Order of Sidebar Widgets in WordPress

When you add a new theme in WordPress or are customizing your current one, an important element of that theme will be the content that you include in your sidebar. Depending on the type of the site this could be things like a calendar, related posts, ads, or images.

But you might have added these sidebar elements in the order in which you thought of them, meaning that the order isn’t correct for how you envisioned the layout of your site. Fortunately you won’t need to bother redoing all of these sidebar widgets, as you can follow the steps below to find out how you can change their order.

How to Move Around WordPress Sidebar Widgets

The steps in this article were performed in the 5.2.1 version of WordPress. This guide assumes that you currently have at least two sidebar widgets.

Step 1: Sign into the admin section of your WordPress site at (http://yourdomain.com)/wp-admin.

Step 2: Select the Appearance tab at the left side of the window, then choose the Widgets option.

Step 3: Click the arrow to the right of the sidebar widget area to expand the widgets within that widget area.

Step 4: Position your mouse over one of the widgets that you want to move so that a four-way arrow icon appears.

Step 5: Click and hold the mouse down on the widget that you want to move, then drag it to the desired location in the widget area and release the mouse.

You can then repeat step 5 for each additional sidebar widget that you want to move.
