How to Embed a YouTube Video in WordPress with the Gutenberg Editor

Many posts that you create on your WordPress site can be improved or aided with the addition of a YouTube video. Whether it’s a video that you found from another creator, or one that you have uploaded yourself, your audience will often appreciate the ability to watch additional content.

With the addition of the Gutenberg editor, embedding a YouTube video has become even easier. Once you have found a video in YouTube, simply copy the URL of the video, then continue below and paste it into the block as we will be doing below.

How to Put a YouTube Video in a WordPress Post

As mentioned above, this guide is performed using the Gutenberg editor that was added in WordPress 5.0. We will assume that you have already found and copied the link for the YouTube video before proceeding with the steps below.

Step 1: Sign into the admin section of your site at (yourdomain.com)/wp-admin and either create a new post or open an existing one.

Step 2: Click at the point in the article where you want to add the video, then click the Add block button.

click the add block button

Step 3: Scroll down and choose the Embeds option.

select the embeds tab

Step 4: Click the YouTube button.

Are there parts of one of your posts that you would like to be able to reference directly from other posts, or from within that same post? Find out how to add an anchor to a header in WordPress quickly and easily thanks to the Gutenberg editor.
