Is There an Easy Way to Find Free Themes in WordPress?

Finding the right theme for your WordPress site can be difficult. There are many free options available, but most of the best and most-recommended themes cost money.

But if your budget is tight and you can’t afford one of these premium themes right now, there is a quick and easy way to locate some free themes and install them without ever actually leaving your WordPress admin menu.

How to Search for Free Themes in WordPress

The steps in this article were performed in WordPress 5.2.2. We are going to be navigating to the Themes menu in WordPress, which you can use to search for and install themes directly to your site.

Note that testing out a lot of themes is probably going to leave you with a lot of inactive ones. Check out our guide to deleting themes and see how to remove the ones that you aren’t going to be using.

Step 1: Sign into the admin section of your WordPress site at (yourdomain.com)/wp-admin.

Step 2: Hover over the Appearance tab at the left side of the window, then select the Themes option.

open the wordpress themes menu

Step 3: Click the Add New button at the top of the window.

Step 4: Choose one of the tabs at the top of the window or, if you are looking for a particular theme or feature, use the search field at the top-right of the window.

Step 5: Hover over a theme that you like, then click either the Preview button to see it in action, or click the Install button to activate it.
