How to Add an Amazon OneTag Script to the Footer in a Genesis Theme

If you have a website that advertises or mentions products that are sold on Amazon, then it’s a good idea to get an Amazon Associates account. This lets you link to a product on Amazon with your affiliate ID so that if someone clicks your link and makes a purchase you get a commission for it.

Amazon has expanded this program with some new reporting options and the ability to choose your visitors’ local Amazon store with the assistance of something called OneTag. In order for OneTag to track and work properly, you need to add a small bit of code to your website, ideally in the footer.

Our guide below is going to show you where to locate the place in your Genesis WordPress site where you can paste the code that you have copied from your Amazon Associates account.

How to Paste Amazon OneTag Script into the Genesis Footer

The steps in this article assume that you are using a WordPress website with the Genesis framework and (optionally) a Genesis child theme. These steps may be different if you aren’t using Genesis.

Note that this guide assumes you have already copied your Amazon OneTag script or that you know where to find it. If not, then you can get the OneTag script here. Just click the oneTag link under “How do I get this report?”

Step 1: Sign into the admin section of your site at (yourdomain.com)/wp-admin.

Step 2: Hover over Appearance in the left column, then choose Customize.

Step 3: Choose the Theme Settings tab.

Step 4: Select the Header/Footer Scripts option.

Step 5: Click inside the Footer Scripts field and paste the OneTag script you copied from your Amazon Associates account. You can then click the Publish button at the top of the column to make the change live.

It took two or three days for the OneTag script to start collecting data for my Content Insights reports, so don’t panic if you don’t see information right away.
