How to Stop Showing the Full Post in Archives With a Genesis WordPress Theme

The content archives on your WordPress site will list the various posts that you have put into those archives. Typically this is for things like your categories and your tags.

But you may find that, when you open one of those archives, you are seeing the full post content for each post in that archive. This can be undesirable for a couple of different reasons, and it’s likely that this is something you will want to change. Our tutorial below will show you how to change the content archive settings for your Genesis theme so that you only show a short excerpt of each post instead.

How to Display Small Parts of a Post in Genesis Archives

The steps in this article were performed on the Smart Passive Income Pro theme. Most standard Genesis themes will be able to achieve the desired results by changing the setting below, but you may encounter difficulties with certain themes, or if you have included some custom coding in your theme that overrides this setting.

Step 1: Sign into the admin section of your WordPress site at yourdomain.com/wp-admin.

Step 2: Hover over the Genesis tab at the left side of the window, then select Theme Settings.

Step 3: Scroll down to the Content Archives section, click the dropdown menu to the right of Display, then choose the Entry excerpts option.

That settings menu includes a number of other options that you might want to change as well. For example, find out how to add and customize the appearance of breadcrumbs on the various pages of your site.
