How to Add a TXT DNS Record in Cloudflare

While there are usually a couple of different ways that you can verify your website with various services, one that I like to use involves creating a DNS text record.

Your DNS records might be stored with the company where you purchased your domain but, if you set up Cloudflare, then they are probably there instead.

Our tutorial below will show you how to create a new DNS TXT record in your Cloudflare account.

How to Create a TXT Record At Cloudflare

1. Sign into Cloudflare.
2. Select your site.
3. Choose the DNS option.
4. Click the Add record button.
5. Choose TXT from the dropdown menu.
6. Enter @ into the Name field.
7. Paste the TXT code into the Content field and click Save.

Often when you need to create a .txt record it’s because you need to verify they you own a website.

I have to do this a lot to verify a Google Search Console account or claim ownership of a website for Pinterest.

You’ve probably already got a handful of different DNS records that could be CNAME records for different subdomains, A records to map your IP address to your domain, or MX records if you have a custom email account set up.

But our focus in this guide is creating a new TXT record for your domain, specifically when you have your DNS records hosted with Cloudflare.

How to Add a DNS TXT Record with Cloudflare (Guide with Pictures)

The steps in this article were performed in the desktop version of the Google Chrome Web browser but will work in most other desktop browsers as well.

Step 1: Navigate to Cloudflare’s website and sign in to your account.

Step 2: Select the site for which you wish to edit the DNS records.

Step 3: Click the DNS tab on the left side of the window.

Step 4: Click the blue Add record button above the list of existing DNS records.

Step 5: Cick the Type dropdown menu, then scroll down and select the TXT option.

Step 6: Type the @ symbol into the Name field.

Step 7: Enter or paste the TXT code into the Content field, then click the blue Save button at the right side of the window.

Now that you know how to create a TXT DNS record with Cloudflare you will be able to do this whenever you wan tto use a TXT record to verify your ownership of the site.
