How to Enable or Disable Sitemaps in the Jetpack WordPress Plugin

When you are first getting a site set up, one of the steps that you should take is adding that site to Google’s Search Console. There are a number of settings within Search Console that should be adjusted, including one where you add a sitemap. This makes it a little easier for Google to crawl the site, which can help to improve the manner and speed at which your site is added to their search results.

Manually creating and keeping a sitemap updated can be a daunting task, but fortunately WordPress users have a handful of options available that can take care of sitemaps for you. One popular choice is the Yoast SEO plugin, but another choice you may consider is the Jetpack plugin. Our guide below will show you where to find the sitemap option in Jetpack so that you can either enable or disable it as needed.

How to Change the Sitemap Setting for the Jetpack Plugin

The steps in this guide were performed in WordPress 5.2, using the 7.3.1 version of Jetpack. This guide will assume that you have already installed the Jetpack plugin on your site.

Step 1: Sign into the admin section of your WordPress website at (yourdomain.com)/wp-admin.

Step 2: Hover over the Jetpack option in the left column, then click Settings.

Step 3: Choose the Traffic tab at the top of the window.

Step 4: Scroll down to the Sitemaps section of the menu, then click the button to the right of Generate XML Sitemaps to adjust the setting.

Do you need to add a cookie and consent banner to be compliant with GDPR? Find out how to add one to your site through Jetpack if you are already using the Jetpack plugin anyway.
