The Gutenberg editor for WordPress makes it much easier to do many of the common formatting that you would want to do in your posts. Whether it’s embedding a YouTube video or linking to a specific point in the same post, tasks that were a bit more difficult in earlier version of WordPress have become much easier with Gutenberg.
Many of the block and formatting changes that you will need to make are performed through a toolbar. By default, this toolbar is available as a hover menu when you are working inside a block. This is where you can switch the block type, change the alignment, add links, and perform many other common tasks. But that toolbar can also be located at the top of the screen if you find that the hover toolbar is getting in the way. Our guide below will show you where to change this setting.
The steps in this article were performed in WordPress 5.2. In my example below, I am currently using the Top Toolbar, where the toolbar is pinned to the top of the post editor. By changing this setting I am going to be reverting back to the hover toolbar.
Step 1: Sign into the admin section of your website at (yourdomain.com)/wp-admin.
Step 2: Create a new post or open an existing one.
Step 3: Click the Show more tools and options button at the top of the right column. It’s the icon with three dots.
Step 4: Click the Top Toolbar option to toggle it on or off.
