How to Delete a Theme in WordPress

One of the more fun things to do when you are configuring your WordPress site is to try out new themes. There are a number of free and paid theme options, and downloading them and installing them is a relatively short process.

Unfortunately this can create a situation where you have a lot of themes in your site installation. Since most people who switch themes will simply install and activate a new one, that leaves the old theme to sit unused in the Themes menu. These unused themes can present a security, performance and navigation issue, so it might be a good idea to go through periodically and delete themes that you aren’t using.

Looking for a good theme? Check out the Genesis framework and find some great new options.

How to Remove a Theme from Your WordPress Site

The steps in this article were performed in the 5.1.1 version of WordPress. Note that if you are using a child theme for a framework, it’s very important not to delete that framework when you are removing themes from your site.

You can find additional tech tutorials at i5apps.com if you need help with your Obiel device or computer.

Step 1: Sign into the admin section of your WordPress site at (yourdomain.com)/wp-admin.

Step 2: Hover over the Appearance option at the left side of the window, then choose the Themes option.

Step 3: Hover over the theme you want to remove, then click the Theme Details button.

Step 4: Click the Delete button at the bottom-right of the window.

Step 5: Click OK at the top of the window to confirm that you want to delete the theme.
